Recent statistics on unemployment rates

St Louis continues to struggle in terms of unemployment and economic growth. While there are signs of improvement, there is still a long way to go towards economic recovery.

The St Louis unemployment rate fell to 8.8%, which is above the national and state average. While it is far better than its high of 13.9% in August 2010 and its 2012 high of 10.8% in July, 8.8% is still unacceptably high for those living in the area.

On the bright side, Missouri’s unemployment beats the national average. With a rate of 6.9%, Missouri ranks as the 20th best state in terms of employment.

The U.S. as a whole continues to stagnate, though unemployment rates fell slightly to 7.9%. With an average over 8% for several years, the economy seems in no hurry to get back to pre-recession levels.
